Royal Bangkok Sports Club 7s Tournament

The last time I picked up a rugby ball was at the New York 7s, when the Mountbatten Bandits won the Social Bowl Championship. That was last November.

Fast forward to today, roughly a year ahead, and I have managed to get myself another international 7s game. This time for the Old Bangkok Bangers in the Royal Bangkok Sports Club 7s tournament. James sent a speculative email to their club captain asking if they needed any extra players. Fortunately they were short and we were able to get a game.

One of the best pitches that I have ever played on, the sun was beaming and it was a not so cool 32c. We lost our first game against the Thai Navy, but won the next two against the Thai Army and a local University. Reaching the semi finals of the plate, in the evening mist of Bangkok, our skill (and fitness) levels were matched and beaten, and we were out of the competition. Another location to add to my rugby CV though I guess.

Street Food Friends

On the corner of the soi that I live on, is a food cart that is there from about 5pm to 5am. They are there every day, without fail. Having eaten here quite a few times now, I would like to say that we, the Mountbatten's, have some form of a relationship with these local business men and women.

I implore all future Mountbatten's that come to Bangkok to eat here on a regular basis. The food not only costs the grand old price of 80p but they are incredibly friendly. When it was raining at monsoon level one day and my bag split, they pulled me in under their shelter and gave me a large stack of plastic bags. Local heroes!

School Trip

We had a school trip today to the Ford manufacturing plant. Not much to report from that, other than it looks like the factory that the Terminator was built in. The view from where we had lunch though was fantastic. I must learn how to play golf!

Eggs Flory

I have got pretty good at handling my home food cravings over the last 16 months, however when you spot a cafe that produces Eggs Florentine that would rival Betty's tea shop, it is must have. The jam jar iced coffee as well was a nice touch.

Planking

In reflection, planking down an escalator isn't the most effective use of my time.

Thai Christmas

I am missing the build up to Christmas in the UK for the second year running this year. This token window display comforts my lusting slightly.

Healthy Schools

Jamie Oliver would not be happy about the school breakfast this morning. The token banana did little to counteract the burgers and cookies!
